Zoom poker strategy. Zoom poker: what is it and how to play it Zoom poker strategy
Zoom poker is a novelty from poker rooms, which has managed to form into a separate direction.
The hallmarks of the game can be called its dynamics. Competitions are really exciting and interesting. Instead of fighting with a dozen opponents, it is possible to participate in total up to two hundred tables with a couple of thousand opponents at a time.
From this it becomes immediately clear that the poker strategy of zoom poker is really very difficult.
At the initial stage of the competition, everything appears in the traditional form. But as soon as the participant decides to fold and does so, the next set will be immediately dealt to him and the poker player will automatically move to the new table. It follows from this that when playing zoom poker, there is no need to stay in anticipation of the end of the current struggle, the player enters a new battle with lightning speed.
To do this, just press the dedicated key " quick fold» any number of times. This should be done until a suitable set is received, with which the participant is ready to fight and win. Based on this, we can say that the zoom poker strategy begins when the poker player himself decides which of the combinations that has fallen out is the best fit, and there is no need to reset it, but you can safely enter the game.
This tempting prospect has formed a large number of adherents of this type of competition. But the zoom poker strategy is full of other attractive innovations, which are also worth considering in more detail.
Characteristic changes in the game
What are the main differences of this competition, according to which the zoom poker strategy can be adjusted?
7 distinctive factors:
- Short distribution history. In traditional games, the situation develops as follows: opponents know that the participant raises the button several times in a row. Zoom poker dictates its own rules. Here it is impossible. The opponent has no information about the number of times a player raises in a row.
- Obvious facts lie on the surface and are clear to both the poker player and his opponents. The competition strategy of this type implies the occurrence of difficulties in the formation of notes on opponents. As soon as one combination is played, the participant, as if from scratch, faces a new staff of opponents at the next table. The opponents are unknown, what are their skills, technique and strategy is a mystery.
- Speed. For those who are keen to figure out how to play zoom poker, it will be nice to know the following difference: there is no need to wait. Regular wrestling involves participation in several tables. This guarantees more active draws. But the zoom poker strategy provides an opportunity to discard unsuitable sets until such a card arrives, with which the participant will be ready to test his own strength and join the battle.
- The need to post blinds remained unchanged. Even in a situation where a "quick fold" is a tempting prospect, you still won't be able to sit out waiting for aces to come.
- Number of hands. The strategy of playing zoom poker provides the prospect of playing a larger number of sets in a certain time period. It follows from this that it is possible to take part in a smaller number of tables. It will be correct to start with just one, it will still be possible to add only at the moment when there is a well-founded confidence: “Now it is important to afford this action.”
- Information. All information that is at the disposal of the player must be skillfully applied, it is important to take into account and implement any information for the benefit of your game. Here it would be correct to pay attention to the number of opponents at the table, take into account the player's own position, the dimensions of the opponents' stacks. Based on the above information, it is important to form your decision on the drawing of the set.
- Player style. Most often, zoom poker involves a tight game of behavior for the player. This can be quite logically explained by the presence of the “quick fold” button.
When you theoretically get acquainted with the changes that characterize this type of competition, it seems that these are simple truths that are understandable to absolutely everyone. But, as practice shows, the consequences during the competition may not be the most optimistic if you approach the acquaintance with the changes superficially, without going deep.
Benefits of ZUM
Zoom poker has, in fact, become the choice of the majority. A wide range of advantages allowed us to win a stable position among other types of competitions.
As obvious advantages, the following should be listed:
- Ease of starting a game session;
- At the tables, there is a high probability of meeting a participant with little experience;
- If you have a chance to fight more than once with one opponent, then this will allow you to better understand his behavior and make notes for yourself about his game as a whole;
- In such a fight, it is easier to reach the VIP level, due to the greater number of sets played out within an hour.
Thus, the strategy of playing zoom poker becomes clear, but it is also important to appreciate the fact that in this type of competition there is much less time to choose in favor of one or another action to continue the struggle.
Lacking sufficient experience, only this factor can adversely affect the analysis of the current situation. When the cards are discarded, the player cannot watch how events unfolded further. Is that when you hold down the CTRL button after the fold, you have a chance to watch and find out how the hand ended.
Correct analysis, study and evaluation of all changes can be a good basis for achieving victory.
But no matter what approach this or that player would choose for himself: to thoroughly understand or learn all the secrets of the game already during the competition itself - everyone is driven by the tempting prospect of increasing the total number of combinations played up to 400% per hour.

Today, Zoom at Pokerstars is experiencing a wave of popularity. What is it, you ask? This is Stars' own format for speed poker, both tournaments and cash games.
Consider the game of zoom poker in more detail.
What is zoom in poker: its features
The feature of Pokerstars zoom is that in each hand the player fights with different opponents. Championships are played for free, and you can also play Zoom Poker not only for money, but also for conditional “chips”.
The Zoom format at PokerStars is available in Hold'em, Draw Poker, and Omaha.
In the zoom poker game you can do the following:
- discard cards at any time in the tournament and immediately find yourself behind a new board, where the next distribution starts;
- click on the "Quick Fold" button to fold your hand before it's your turn to bet. Thanks to this fast poker, you do not have to wait for the end of each hand. The big blind is brought in by the player who pressed this button less often than others. This is how the organizers of the Zoom tournament ensure that all poker players place approximately equal blinds.
When the pool of players in a Zoom match becomes small (only a few boards remain), the competition turns into a regular freezeout championship. That is, the player crashes as soon as he runs out of chips.

Zoom Poker is a new Texas Hold'em and Omaha format offered by PokerStars. In this format, there was a rejection of poker tables in the traditional sense, where the dealer button smoothly moves clockwise. Zoom Poker operates on a similar principle to Rush Poker, a format developed by the Full Tilt Poker platform.
"Another game," those who, after catching a dozen coolers on this infernal merry-go-round, will say with a wry face, decide to play "ordinary cash." "Different game" - say those who have placed their blog in the newly appeared section for Zoom Poker and no longer plans to return to the game at the regular tables. From most players you will hear exactly one of these two polar opinions.
In this article, we will look at the features of the Zoom Poker format and the non-gaming advantages that follow from it.
Features of the Zoom Poker format
Zoom poker involves the creation of a pool of players (~250-1000 people). They are immediately seated nine (or six) at a virtual table, which is reassembled for each hand. In this case, the big blind is paid by the one who from the assembled nine did it least often. At the same time, when you press the "Quick fold" button, the player is immediately transferred to a new virtual table, which allows you to participate in the game all the time.
In this article we will talk about hold'em at full tables. Unlike Rush Poker, you now have a "Skip Next BB" feature, which is especially useful for MSS players and can save them a lot of big blinds in the long run. The fact is that after doubling we can still play all the hands for the round that we paid for by placing the blinds. Rush poker didn't have this feature, so we had to leave the table immediately after doubling, so as not to pay the big blind again by mistake.
But BSS players can also use this feature to their advantage. Namely, when they do not feel comfortable at the table, having more than 200 big blinds in the stack. Because here you can also play the circle to the end before leaving the table.
The next feature of Zoom Poker is that you need to buy at the tables with a stack of at least 50 BB. Therefore, players with an average stack need to make some adjustments to their game compared to the standard MSS. Post-flop play is becoming more important, and the call option is becoming increasingly important for MSS players as the stack size is now larger, and our stack play ranges are changing due to this.
Time factor
A new to poker and often overlooked resource in Zoom Poker is hand time. Often it is not taken into account either in Holdem Manager's charts or in the minds of players who come to "try" Zoom after regular games. Meanwhile, most of the features of the format are connected precisely with this aspect.
When playing on four virtual tables, you can play 1200-1300 hands per hour, that is, more than 20 hands per minute. For comparison: on regular cash tables we play only about 70 hands per hour, i.е. when playing at four tables, it turns out about 280 hands per hour. At the same time, the fingers, mashed by Starcraft and Counterstrike, spend about a second in Zoom to reset the garbage hand, and the saved time is almost completely "used" - for the draw.
Because we play so many hands, it can feel like we're playing against the nuts all the time. What is an unsuccessful session - each of us knows. However, such a session usually lasts several hours, and therefore we perceive it differently. But if adverse events follow one another, it can be very upsetting.
Therefore, in Zoom Poker, the mindset and mental attitude of the player is very important in order to be able to cope with such situations. Indeed, in such scenarios, players often fall into tilt, and in Zoom poker, with such a large number of hands played per hour and stronger preflop ranges, this can become very expensive very quickly.
Therefore, you just need to control yourself here, and it is better to leave the tables altogether if you notice that you are no longer able to play your A-game.
Alternatively, you can also set a "stop loss" limit for yourself and leave the tables when this limit is reached.
Let's consider a situation in which the "time to play a hand" factor manifests itself to the maximum:
You are in the small blind with a marginal hand like 97s in front of a tight big blind. In normal play, this is a great spot and a good hand to steal. In Zoom poker, especially if there are actively stealing regulars in late position, this is a waste of time.
The reason is that in those 7-8 seconds that will pass before the moment when all the players fold and we get the opportunity to steal the big blind, you can have time to look at seven hands, of which a couple of three will have better equity than 97s, and we will get almost all of them in a better position than the small blind.
Plus, we have to take into account that often the steal from the positions of the cut-off and the button will be made on any two cards, and we will have to spend our time and end up folding anyway. And also the fact that if the player in the big blind calls, we will get into a marginal situation, and playing out of position against a strong range will require a lot of time resources and, obviously, there will be hardly +EV.
So, if you're not going to resteal, then waiting your turn in the small blind without a good hand is simply not profitable. This is how the time resource manifests itself: yes, you incur losses in the small blind position, but due to the fact that during this time you looked at a couple of good hands and stacked someone, you will increase not only the number of hands played, but also your expected winnings in hour.
However, in this situation there are purely gaming pluses. Admit it: Have you dreamed of having a solid stealing range from the small blind and not feeling like you're missing out on profits?
Zoom poker allows this - thanks to the resource of time. By the way, if you are lucky enough to sit in the SB until a steal situation (for example, writing down the traditional “coldcall QQ+” note), then no one bothers to steal BB on any two cards, diluting your strong range with weak hands.
Insulation
The next peculiarity of the Zoom Poker format is the relatively low pre-flop fold equity against limpers. It's easy to wait for an acceptable hand - and since the "fish" has waited for it, then the flop will most likely be seen by him. Isolates for value have never been so easy and so profitable: 5, 6, 6.5 BB - experiment on your health.
At the same time, of course, we always need to pay attention to the opponents behind us, so as not to inadvertently put ourselves in a difficult situation on the postflop.
UTG ($100)
Hero ($100)
Preflop: Hero is MP3 with
MP2 calls $1, Hero raises to 6$ , MP2 calls 5$
flop:
MP2 checks, Herobets 9$ , MP2 folds
This is a typical spot where we have a good hand to isolate raise. Our hand is so strong that in position we can raise almost any limper with it (except when we know he has limped/raised 100% of the time so far).
If he's a tight player, his limp-calling range will usually consist almost exclusively of pocket pairs. If we know this for sure, then this player will never be able to profitably play his pocket against us. Especially on draw-heavy boards, many players still check/raise their sets out of position because they're afraid they won't be able to get all the money in the pot.
Therefore, if we want to barrel, it is very useful for us to know if our opponent does it, because then we can eliminate many of his "nuts" hands. In our example scenario, we can often continue to bet on the flop or on the flop and turn (in the event of dangerous cards) and force our opponent to fold almost all hands. In addition, these players almost never bluff-raise the flop out of position, which means they usually play their hand very "transparently", which also benefits us.
If the opponent is a fish, then it is obvious that this is also a very profitable situation for us. Preflop, he has a wider range than a weak regular and will often limp/call with various combinations of Kx and Ax hands. Here we also have a big advantage, as we have the initiative and play in position. We know much better than a weak player how strong our hand is on the pot flop. Due to our post-flop advantage, we can even isolate him quite loosely, since the fish will fold often if he misses anything, and we can also very well assess when we can continue to bet for value.
As you can see, isolation is very profitable against almost any type of player.
Another specific consequence of a format that allows you to wait a long time for a good hand is that the fish ranges are more or less clearly defined. How many times in "regular cash" have you confidently bet AK on a K96 flop and watched the chips go to the "fish" with his 96s? And then there's also the disassembly in the chat... For Zoom, it's a 50/3 fish, and such hands are rather an exception. And there is no one to scold in the chat - you are already at the new table.
Especially against weak opponents in late position, we can overcall with many hands since we have a big advantage post-flop. The fact is that due to the presence of the "Quick Fold" button, weak players become a little tighter preflop, but they play just as weakly postflop as they do at regular cash tables.
They often fail to fold a hand like top pair or overpair, no matter how bad the board is for them. And this is where we win the most, as hobby players can't appreciate when their hand turns into just a bluff catcher. And here it is extremely important for us to be able to bet well for value.
Zoom poker regulars
The attractiveness of playing for rakeback is another sign of this format. "Carousel" gameplay, lightning-fast leapfrog hands and the general nitifity of the field often lead to absolute automation of the gameplay. Sort out in the lobby those who play 4 tables (maybe they play another 4 tables at a different limit?) - these are your clients, often with fold to 3-bet and check / fold the flop of about 70%, with a turn cbet of 25%. ..
The only thing to consider is the complete lack of table dynamics. As well as mining bases, which simply do not exist. In view of this, the main source of information for you is the hands played with your opponent. And the expected EV from recording notes on victim regulars has never been so high - after all, with the same robot opponent, the Zuma carousel can bring together 3-4 times in 10 minutes.
Accordingly, it is also very profitable to bluff 3-bet with a wider range against these opponents when they open in early position. The reason is that our 3-bets are very trustworthy, and it's hard for our opponents to fight back. If they call, they will give up on the flop very often. You can hardly expect frequent moves from them, since they will proceed from the fact that our spectrum is very strong.
Many players make the mistake of only looking at the total 3-bet statistic and not the statistic that indicates what position they are 3-betting against. After all, on its basis, you can much more accurately assess the range of opponent's hands. However, here we need a very large sample of hands to get meaningful information. Otherwise, it can turn out to be very counterproductive, since we will give the opponent either too weak or too strong a spectrum.
UTG ($100)
Hero ($100)
Preflop: Hero is BU with
UTG raises to 3$ , Hero raises to 9$ , UTG calls 6$
flop:
UTG checks, Herobets 10$ , UTG folds
Here we 3-bet bluff preflop with a marginal hand. This is a very loose example, but there are quite a few regulars in Zoom poker who have elementary leaks in their postflop play. Therefore, it is profitable to use such bluff-3-bets.
Despite the strong range in UTG, many regulars fold up to 70% to 3bet, which makes it profitable for us to 3bet with a wider range. Also, usually our opponents will be very "fair" to play post-flop.
If in the above example we assume Villain has QQ, then at the latest on the turn he will check/fold with that hand.
We don't present many combinations in this spot, but we almost always have them, as long as we don't reraise too many bluff hands against UTG.
However, before you start using loose 3-bets, you need to accumulate a certain selection on your opponent. Then you can already see how profitable continuation bets on the flop and turn are against him if he calls. After all, if he has serious leaks in the game on the flop and turn, then it’s not scary for us if he folds not so many hands preflop, because he folds too many hands postflop and we will be able to win quite a lot from him of money.
If we 3-bet bluff from the small blind, it is usually much more credible than if we re-raise from the cut-off or the button against a weak range. The reason for this is quite simple. As we said above, especially in the small blind, we should fold marginal hands sooner to save time. Therefore, our 3-bet from the small blind looks stronger. Of course, we can also use this circumstance to make lighter 3-bets. Especially when our opponent often folds his hand in response to a 3-bet.
You might think that a similar situation occurs in the big blind. However, it is not. The reason is obvious enough. In the big blind, we often have hands that we can defend either actively or passively, since we are a pre-flop finisher. In addition, there is no "Quick Fold" button on the big blind, so we can not fold our weak hands until the first player opens.
Naturally, you should not get carried away with the use of 3-bets, so as not to get into too marginal situations on the postflop. Most regulars these days play by stats, and if they notice that your blind 3-bet numbers have reached astronomical proportions, they will start defending against your 3-bets.
The exception to this are players on auto-pilot, who are very common in Zoom. They just play their hands without regard to position stats, usually play too many tables without any positive win rate and have significant leaks in their game. It is against such opponents that you can resteal a little more often, since, despite the very high rates of fold to resteal, they are unlikely to start to fight back. Theoretically, they should open-raise tighter or defend against you with a wider range, but due to the fact that they constantly look only at their hand, neither happens, which of course makes the situation very pleasant for us. .
VIP system becomes more attractive for micro-stakes players
PokerStars does not have a fixed rakeback interest rate with fixed payout dates. However, PokerStars offers a very extensive VIP program.
Since many hands are played in a very short time even at four tables, it is possible even for low stakes players to achieve high statuses on PokerStars. Accordingly, even a micro-limit player can earn a higher percentage of rakeback than about 9% for the status of "BronzeStar".
Blinds | VPP per $rake (Full Ring) | VPP for 100 hands | ~Hands for status "SilverStar" |
$0,01/$0,02 | 10 | 1,2-2,5 | 30.000-63.000 |
$0,02/$0,05 | 8,5 | 2,3-3,8 | 19.700-32.600 |
$0,05/$0,10 | 7 | 4,2-5,2 | 14.400-17.900 |
$0,10/$0,25 | 6 | 8-9,5 | 7.900-9.400 |
Please note that these numbers can vary greatly depending on your play style and the play style of your opponents. Therefore, they serve only as a rough guide.
The highest rakeback interest rate comes from the two highest VIP statuses: "Supernova" and "Supernova Elite". There is a rakeback of over 37% possible here. However, these VIP statuses, which are calculated based on the results of the calendar year, require a large amount of play even at the NL $100 limit.
If you're thinking about upgrading your VIP status, then after a few thousand hands played, you should calculate how much VPP you earn on average playing your style. Based on this, you can calculate the approximate number of hands that you will need in order to reach the corresponding VIP status. If you have any questions, please contact the PokerStars forum for help.
We hope that we were able to introduce you to this game format better. We wish all fast game fans success at the Zoom Poker tables.
Zoom poker is familiar to players PokerStars - it was in this online room that he appeared in the form in which he now exists. However, for the first time, fast poker called Rush Poker was offered by the room full tilt even before the merger with PokerStars. Nowadays quite a lot of players prefer to play Zoom poker at cash tables and in tournaments. When playing this game, it is important to consider its features, advantages and disadvantages.
What is the Zoom format in poker
Actually, Zoom poker is a type of fast poker that can be played at PokerStars. The main feature is the ability to declare a quick fold. The player does not need to wait for the decision queue to exit the hand. Having made a Fold, he not only folds his cards, but also immediately becomes a participant in a new distribution, moving to the table where it begins. This type of poker has a number of significant advantages compared to the usual cash game:
- A poker player can significantly increase the number of hands played per unit of time;
- The player can increase the profit per session;
- Fast poker is a great alternative to multi-table games;
- Most opponents play tight or have a ready strategy to get rakeback;
- No need to waste time choosing tables;
- The game becomes more dynamic and interesting.
Previously, most players used the multi-table game to raise profits at the usual limit by increasing the number of hands played per session. However, multi-tabling is not suitable for all players, since it is inconvenient to play at several tables with a small monitor size or from a mobile device. In addition, not every player has sufficient reaction speed, which is necessary to successfully play at several tables at the same time. Zoom poker has solved all these problems, but it also has disadvantages:
- With each new hand, the opponents change, which makes it difficult to use observation of them in the game;
- Drawing up notes (notes on opponents) becomes a more time-consuming process;
- Playing Zoom poker requires stricter bankroll management;
- The dynamism of the game takes some getting used to.
When planning how to play Zoom poker in terms of strategy, it is important to take into account these disadvantages. Currently, you can play the following disciplines at PokerStars, which take place in the format of fast poker:
- BL Hold'em and PL Omaha - very high popularity;
- Omaha Hi-Lo - medium popularity;
- FL Hold'em and 5-Card Draw - Low popularity.
Many experienced players use Zoom poker to wager bonuses. Here, playing at only one table, you can significantly increase the number of hands played, and hence the rake generation. Thus, you can quickly collect the required number of bonus points to turn the bonus into real money.
What is Zoom in Tournament Poker
A number of tournament events are also held in the Zoom poker format at PokerStars. The principle of play in such tournaments is similar to fast cash tables. The only difference is that during the game the number of opponents is constantly decreasing, and new players appear only during the late registration period. As the tables get smaller, the game shifts to a classic format, such as when there are 18 or 27 players left, depending on the rules of the tournament.
The advantage of tournaments taking place in the Zoom format is the faster game flow when compared to regular events with the same number of participants.
How to play Zoom Poker
A player who successfully plays at the classic tables can achieve similar results in Zoom poker. However, when developing a strategy, the following points should be considered:
Change of position - at each new table, the position is determined by the random method - randomly. You can pay the Blinds twice in a row or not post them for more than ten hands in a row. You should take into account your losses in the Blinds in order to compensate them in a timely manner. Position takes on a more important role than observation of opponents;
Unfamiliar Rivals - You will have little information about the opponents, and it will be difficult to observe them, given their number. However, a similar situation will develop with them - they will have a minimum of information about you;
Blind Features - the player in the big blind, the only player in the hand who cannot make a quick fold right away. He can discard cards only after one of the opponents rises. This must be taken into account! In Zoom Poker, players are much more likely to defend the Blinds from steals (steal attempts). You should choose your hands carefully in order to steal the Blinds;
Bankroll management – for Zoom poker you should have more buy-ins than for regular cash tables. It is desirable to have a bankroll in the range of 45-70 buy-ins. Raising the stack to 150BB, you should leave the table and sit down at it again with the original stack.
Tracking experienced opponents - despite the fact that it is more difficult to observe opponents, it is worth paying attention to experienced players. The ability to watch the hand without leaving the table after the fold will help you with this. Experienced players should be celebrated.
Entering trades with an increase – you should practically forget about limping, since in Zoom poker you should not enter trades without raising. You should always enter the trade with a raise, and Cold Call should only be used in multiway pots with pocket pairs and suited connectors.
Regularly analyze your game, which will allow you to adjust the range of hands and identify errors.
Remember that the possibility of a quick fold attracts many players, especially inexperienced ones. They often do nothing but press this button, expecting to get good hole cards in the next hand. Your task is not to do this, but to realize the potential of all promising hands for each specific position.
Zoom poker is an interesting and dynamic game that allows you to get increased profits with a competent strategic approach. When getting acquainted with this type of poker, it is recommended to start playing at a cheaper limit than you prefer at regular cash tables. You may need time to adapt to such a game and adjust your strategy. Reducing the limits will reduce possible losses.
ZOOM tournaments are a special format of multi-table tournaments where a player has the right to immediately fold cards without waiting for the opponents to act. Immediately after the cards are discarded, he will be transferred to another table with new participants. Throwing cards out of turn is prohibited only in the position of the big blind, if no player showed aggression preflop. When there are three tables left in the tournament, the game switches to normal mode.
How to find ZOOM tournaments at PokerStars
They are located in the "Tournaments" tab and are marked with a special symbol, as shown in the picture below.
There are two ways to simplify the search for ZOOM tournaments on PokerStars:
1. In a special field, write the word "zoom" to find these tournaments by name:
2. Filter tournaments by type, displaying only fast poker events:
ZOOM tournaments at PokerStars are very diverse. They are in the following formats:
- heads-up;
- 3-max;
- 6-max;
- with knockout rewards;
- with rebuys;
Buy-ins range from $1.10 to $215. As part of the prestigious online series, the contribution to such tournaments can reach $2,100.
The strategy of playing in "fast" poker tournaments is slightly different when compared to regular events. PokerStars got in touch with seasoned pro Steve O'Dwyer, who agreed to share some tips for playing ZOOM tournaments:
- in the initial stages, play ABC poker and do not invent anything;
- when an ante appears in a tournament, it is necessary to activate and start playing looser;
- don't overdo the "quick fold" button when you're on the button, cutoff, or small blind. In these positions, you need to open a wider range of hands, and send very weak hands to the pass;
- try to defend the blinds;
- 3-bet less often, because in ZOOM tournaments there are much more chances to make a raise first, and this should be used;
- with a short stack, you don't just have to wait for a premium hand, you need to look for the best situation to move all in or steal the blinds;
Analogues of ZOOM-poker in other rooms
Players from all over the world almost instantly fell in love with the format of "fast" poker, so various poker rooms did not miss the opportunity to add this popular type of game to their lobbies. Not all poker rooms offer tournaments in this format, but you can play cash tables at.
